Excellent Private Clinical Practice Opportunity
for a Qualified Psychiatrist

(Texas Highland Lakes Area)

(Updated December, 2013)

The Central Texas Highland Lakes area is a great place to live and practice, and we need a general or child psychiatrist!

Horseshoe Bay and Marble Falls, on adjoining Lake Marble Falls and Lake LBJ, have a thriving medical community with primary care and full- and part-time specialists. We're at the center of a population base of a few hundred thousand people, many well-insured, which includes the high-end Horseshoe Bay resort community and other middle-to-upper-class developments. A new open-staff hospital being built here by Scott & White/Baylor will open soon, and is already attracting clinicians to its recently-completed multispecialty building. There are two other small hospitals nearby, in Burnet and Llano. Bluebonnet Trails MHMR Center operates State-funded satellite offices in Marble Falls and Burnet (Burnet is about 17 miles from Marble Falls and 25 miles from Horseshoe Bay). Austin's several psychiatric and general medical facilities are an hour away.

The Horseshoe Bay-Marble Falls area is arguably the most sophisticated small-town environment in Texas. Nearby Burnet, Llano, and Kingsland are traditional hill country and Highland Lakes towns, pleasant and financially solid. In Horseshoe Bay, a nationally-known resort and residential community, home prices range from the mid-100s to several million dollars; Marble Falls prices are lower. The Marble Falls and Llano schools (which serve Horseshoe Bay) are very good, and there are private schools as well. Our topography is mostly rolling hills with granite and limestone outcroppings, abundant trees, and many miles of streams and recreational and residential lakefront. We have excellent golf (public and private), fine tennis (hard, red clay, and synthetic grass courts), several spas, hiking and cycling, hunting, and lots of fishing, boating, and swimming in and on our several lakes, rivers, and streams. There are active art and music communities, with live theatre, galleries, and cultural events (from longhair to Texas traditional). Shopping is quite good, as are our community and resort (and a few luxury) restaurants and clubs. High-end shopping (and more restaurants) are less than an hour away in Austin. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is a 1-1/2 hour drive, San Antonio and its airport about 1-1/2 hours, and the Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex about 3-1/2 hours. There are three academic medical centers and three postgraduate residency programs (all including psychiatry residencies) within about two hours' drive (in Austin, San Antonio, and Temple).

Although a full-time psychiatrist would be ideal, I'm happy to help a qualified person establish a part-time presence in the area.

This is not an offer to join my own practice, nor is it a "buy-in" arrangement. We simply need a good psychiatrist.

My current practice would not compete with the new psychiatrist. My wife and I have lived in Horseshoe Bay for 16 years, and I maintain an office from which I do largely forensic work and medical school teaching (virtually all outside the area, and often outside the State). Even though the medical community knows that I'm not in a position to follow local patients, I get at least a call a week asking for psychatric care. We currently refer those to Austin; I'd much rather send them to a qualified local psychiatrist.

This is not a salaried position. It is an opportunity for a good psychiatrist to enjoy a fine private practice environment in a relaxed small-city multispecialty setting. Interested clinicians, senior residents, and fellows are encouraged to contact me for more information at (830) 596-0062, or email me HERE.

Thanks for considering it!
